Your guides through FOLDORI's paper world

The Companions are the four voices you meet when you open a FOLDORI set: Otis, Mira, Maïa, and Niko. Each one carries a piece of the craft. Otis greets you at the start and stays with you through assembly. Mira explains the paper stock and engineering specifics. Maïa introduces the palette and shows you where each color comes from. Niko walks you step-by-step through the folds.

They exist outside the Sunrise Dreams universe. The story-world characters, Moonsoon, Noelani, Speeon, live inside the dioramas. The Companions live in the margins, in the Handbook annotations, in the support emails. They are fictional, but their function is real: they remove the blank-page intimidation that stops most people from starting.

Why four voices instead of one

FOLDORI engineering spans materials science, color theory, mechanical design, and procedural instruction. No single voice carries all four credibly. Splitting thecast lets each Companion specialize. Mira talks grammage and fiber length because she apprenticed in Yangzhou; Maïa names dyes by their material origin because she studied kakishibu and ai-zome traditions. The result reads less like a manual and more like a studio tour.

Where you meet them

Open any Classic Set and you'll find them in the Design Handbook. Otis writes the welcome note. Mira's annotations appear on the Materials page. Maïa introduces the palette spread. Niko's step-by-step instructions guide the assembly itself, with technique sidebars explaining the why behind each fold. After purchase, Otis writes the follow-up emails; Niko sends the mid-assembly check-in if you opt in.

They also appear across this site, Otis on the FAQ, Mira in the paper-engineering articles, Niko in the how-to guides. Every public appearance carries a fictional-companion disclosure within two visual elements of the portrait or byline. The boundary stays visible; they are tools, not mascots.
