Maïa, Art Direction and Color Finish

Maïa is FOLDORI's Art Direction Companion. She supervises the palette you see in every layer, every extension, every product across the Sunrise Dreams universe. Her work begins where paper engineering ends: the moment a laser-cut piece becomes a visual statement.

The CMF triad

Maïa works within a three-axis discipline she calls the CMF triad: color, material, and finish. For Sunrise Dreams, that means uncoated Italian paper as the base, warm terracotta and coral as the signature palette, and the occasional kakishibu or ai-zome accent where the story calls for it. No arbitrary decoration. Every hue ties back to a material tradition or a narrative moment.

Why colors have names

In Maïa's vocabulary, colors are named by their material origin. Kakishibu is the persimmon-derived warm accent; ai-zome indigo is the cool counterpoint. She refuses generic color language. When you see a shade in a Sunrise Dreams extension, you are seeing a deliberate choice rooted in centuries of Japanese and European dye-making, not a Pantone swatch picked at random.

Where Maïa lives

You will find Maïa's annotations on collection color intros, in the Design Handbook palette spreads, and occasionally in the blog under Color Stories. She writes sparingly, in short technical notes. Her work is what you see, not what she says about it.
